12.3. A power shaft with CV JOINTS of ball type and Birfield of type

Dismantling

  • Do not disassemble the Birfield CV JOINT.
  • For lubricant of CV JOINTS use only special lubricant.
  • At assembly of the CV JOINT it is necessary to establish new collars.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove collars and pull together a protective cover from the ball CV JOINT of a power shaft.

Be careful not to damage a protective cover.

  1. The screw-driver with a flat edge remove a lock ring.
  1. Remove the ball CV JOINT from a power shaft.
  1. Remove a spring lock ring, take out an internal ring, the case and balls assembled.
  1. Without dismantling clear an internal ring, the case and balls.
  2. Remove collars and pull together protective covers of the ball CV JOINT and Birfield CV JOINT.


If the protective cover is reused before removal of a cover for its protection, wrap up vents of a power shaft an adhesive tape.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Check the ball CV JOINT for lack of traces of a rust, damages of an external ring, internal ring and balls.
  2. Check a condition of shlits of a power shaft.
  3. Check for lack of traces of a rust, water and foreign objects in a protective cover of the Birfield CV JOINT.

If the Birfield CV JOINT has to be reused, do not delete from it lubricant. Make sure that in lubricant there are no impurity.
If necessary clear the Birfield CV JOINT and replace in it lubricant.

Assembly

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Before installation of a cover for its protection wrap up vents of a power shaft from the ball hinge an adhesive tape.
  2. Apply lubricant on a power shaft and establish a cover.
  1. For installation of a dynamic damper arrange the Birfield CV JOINT on a straight line in relation to a shaft, arrange a damper at a certain distance and fix it by a clip.

Distance of installation of a damper (A)

– cars with l engines 1,6 and 1,8 with MKP: 467,5 (2/0) mm
– cars with engines 2,0 with MKP: 469 (2/0) mm

  1. Apply lubricant on an internal ring and the case. Install the case so that shift on the surface of swing settled down, as shown in the drawing.

Use the lubricant delivered together with a repair kit.

  1. Apply lubricant on the case and balls located in the case.
  2. Install the hinge, as shown in the drawing, and fix it by a spring lock ring.
  3. Enclose the required amount of lubricant in an external ring and establish it on a power shaft.
  4. Enclose the required amount of lubricant in a protective cover and install a cover on the hinge.
  5. Fix by collars a protective cover of ball type.
  6. Add so much lubricant how many it was wiped during check of the hinge to the Birfield CV JOINT.
  7. Establish covers.
  8. Fix a protective cover of the Birfield CV JOINT by collars.
  1. For control of pressure of air in a T.J hinge cover. support the required distance between collars of fastening of a protective cover or length of a power shaft when tightening collars. Nominal length of power shafts is specified in the table.
